Water pumps and water pump skid systems are an integral part of integrated liquid phase activated carbon adsorption systems used in environmental remediation applications. A water pump skid can consist of multiple pumps capable of moving from 2 gpm to 200 gpm each, float control sensors and an electronic control panel to automate the liquid phase adsorption process.
A dual pump system allows for two treatment trains to operate simultaneously. This means that if one treatment train is down due to backwashing, carbon exchanges or other issues, that the other liquid phase remediation operation is ongoing.
Many integrated environmental remediation systems involve frac water collection tanks that are fed from contaminated water sources via a well pump. As frac tanks allow sediment and larger particles in the incoming liquid stream to settle, float control sensors detect the water level in the tank and trigger the water pumps to turn off or on accordingly.
When the water level in the frac tank is high, the control panel signals the water pumps to switch on. The pumps then send influent into the next stage of the remediation process, which can be multi-media filters or activated carbon adsorption vessels. When the water level in the tank is low, the float sensors automatically turn the water pumps off. A flashing red light atop the control panel can be used to signal workers when present conditions are met, such as low water levels in the frac tank.
The water pumps run on three-phase, 460 volt power. The float control sensors operate on DC current. The control panel contains a transformer to step down power and allows both systems to operate simultaneously.

- Submersible water pumps which can be used to transfer water from tanks or sumps
- Trash pumps which can be used in similar circumstances which require less vertical lift
- Centrifugal pumps to transfer water for various frictional loss circumstances and for backwashing
- Positive displacement pumps where fluid shear is undesirable
